Jeff Van Doren

Jeffrey Van Doren is the Director of Global Strategic Services (GSS), a unit within Outreach and International Affairs (OIA), that supports Virginia Tech’s recruitment and retention of top global faculty and researchers. GSS prepares nonimmigrant work visa petitions and applications for permanent residency on behalf of VT faculty and staff. The office processes visa requests for J-1 Exchange Visitors, including professors, research scholars, short-term scholars, specialists, and interns, and monitors compliance with J-1 program requirements.  GSS also oversees the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) process when Virginia Tech partners with other entities such as universities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or private sector organizations to collaborate on initiatives specific to our University mission. 

Jeff joined Virginia Tech in July 2023 after having practiced immigration law for over 25 years as an attorney in private practice.  He earned his law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Pennsylvania.  While a practicing attorney, Jeff was listed in the Best Lawyers in America in the field of immigration law for many years.
