E-3, TN, O-1 Employment Statuses

There are several other immigration statuses that can be used to bring foreign nationals to Virginia Tech to be employed. The three more common statuses are TN, E-3 and O-1. Whereas O-1 status is available to citizens of all countries, TN status is reserved for citizens of Canada and Mexico and E-3 status is reserved for citizens of Australia.

The qualification criteria for each status are different and each status has different benefits and drawbacks. The statuses can be used in addition to or in lieu of H-1B status, assuming the qualification criteria are met. Please review the individual status overviews for more information.
