SSN Information for H-1Bs, TNs, E-3s and O-1s

All foreign nationals in H-1B, TN, E-3 and O-1 status are eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN). If you already have a SSN, you do not need to obtain a new one. If you don't have a SSN, you will have to apply for one in person at the nearest Social Security Administration (SSA) office. When applying for your SSN, you will need to bring your passport, I-94 card or record, I-797 Approval Notice (if applicable), a copy of the packet you received from ISS and offer letter from VT. The SSA office closest to Blacksburg is in Roanoke, VA (612 S. Jefferson Str., St. 100, Roanoke, VA 24011).
